Impact of different levels of geographical disaggregation of wind and PV electricity generation in large energy system models: A case study for Austria
We assess how spatial and temporal aggregation affects wind and PV deployment. We use the EU28 JRC-EU-TIMES energy system optimization model from 2005 till 2050. We use the Austria energy system as a case study. Disaggregating locations leads to lower PV and wind electricity generation. We suggest how to analyse the need for disaggregation in energy system models.
