We simulate thermo-chemical plumes across a wide parameter-space, in 2-D and 3-D.
Two conduit regimes emerge: (i) bilaterally asymmetric; and (ii) concentric.
Bilateral: occurs over a limited parameter-space and preserves deep-mantle structure.
Concentric: dominates parameter-space but does not preserve deep-mantle structure.
Conclusion: deep-mantle structure may not be preserved during plume ascent.
