We assessed cord blood from scheduled caesarean delivery for sex differences in glucocorticoids.
Females had higher cortisol in both venous and arterial circulation.
Fetal adrenal synthesis of cortisol did not differ between males and females.
The findings suggest a role for maternal/placental factors in these sex differences.
