Real-time end-to-end OOFDM transmissions over 50 km SSMF IMDD systems with adaptively modulated up to 512-QAM modulation format without oversampling or inline amplifier are experimentally demonstrated, by utilizing low-cost transceiver components including directly modulated DFB Lasers and DACs/ADCs operating at sampling rate as low as 2GS/s. Moreover, the system performance robustness is also extensively explored to determine the system tolerance to DAC/ADC resolution mismatch. It is shown that aggregate system capacity can be maintained almost constant for DAC/ADC resolution mismatch as large as 3bits due to the utilization of adaptive bits and power loading. On the other hand, for a certain signal line rate, reference minimum DAC/ADC boundary in practical is also given which is important in cost effective application area.
