Experiencing maltreatment during childhood (CM) has life-long health consequences.

We study inflammatory processes associated with a history of CM in adult women.

ROS production, oxidative stress and mitochondrial activity were increased with CM.

Mitochondrial activity was positively associated with pro-inflammatory cytokine release.

Findings indicated higher inflammasome activation with increasing severity of CM.
