Among stem cells, mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are the most widely used cells in tissue engineering because of their easily accessible feature for patients, simple culture and manipulation by viral transduction subsequently the strong expression of transgenes at in vivo/in vitro conditions. In order to support the appropriate proliferation of the MSCs in the implanted site of body tissues, the cells are typically implanted in the target region via biodegradable scaffolds seeded by MSCs. These biomatrixes provide the mechanical support and support the growth factors for the cell attachments and proliferations. This study reviewed comprehensively ideal nanoscaffold properties and their preparation methods based on several attractive biomacromoelecules such as silk, collagen, hyaluronic acid, chitosan, alginate, fibrin in the view of their advantages/disadvantages of using them in the cell therapy/tissue engineering.
