Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are vastly applied in human and veterinary medicine to treat a wide scale of infectious diseases. An aptasensor was developed for detection of FQs, based on single-stranded DNA-binding protein (SSB) and gold electrode. The presence of SSB could guarantee limited access of the redox probe to the surface of electrode in the absence of target. The sensor exhibited high specificity toward FQs with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 263 pM for ciprofloxacin. Moreover, the developed sensing method was successfully applied for determination of ciprofloxacin in serum, milk.
