Distinct cell fates result from different spatiotemporal MAPK dynamics. Versatile MAPK dynamics include adaptive/sustained activity, switches and oscillations. MAPK dynamics changes caused by mutations lead to developmental disorders and cancer. Drug resistance inevitably develops for RAF and MEK inhibitors. Two RAF inhibitors ineffective on their own can abolish drug resistance when combined.
