The stereoselective synthesis of cis-2,3-disubstituted indolines has been developed through an aza-alkylation/Michael cascade reaction of 2-(tosylamino)phenyl α,β-unsaturated ketones with α-bromoacetophenone. This simple domino process afforded diverse highly functionalized indolines in high yields with good diastereoselectivities.
