PMFC were applied in laboratorial Spartina anglica salt marsh and Phragmites australis peat soil.

Record volumetric power output for PMFC technology (2.9 W m−3 anode) was achieved.

Most power and current was generated in top layer of salt marsh.

Potentially up to 0.52 W m−2 can be generated by P. australis peat soil.
