CaF2–ZnO–Bi2O3–P2O5 glasses doped with CoO were crystallized by heat treatment. XRD and SEM studies indicated that the samples contain different crystalline phases. Absorption spectra indicated that cobalt ions exist in both Co2+ and Co3+ states. FTIR and Raman spectra have exhibited CoIII – O octahedrally vibrational modes. Glass ceramics doped with CoO beyond 0.6 mol% are suitable for insulating devices.
