Simplification of the zinc-sulfur-iodine thermochemical cycle for the production of H2 and CO

We proposed and designed an open-loop, five-step, and electrochemical ZnSI cycle to simplify the original ZnSI cycle.

Thermal efficiency, thermal balance, and thermal load for each cycle were analyzed.

The open-loop ZnSI system had the highest thermal efficiency, while concentrated H2SO4, O2, CO, and H2 were exported as final products.

The five-step and electrochemical ZnSI cycle simplified the original cycle drastically although thermal efficiency wasn't improved.
