Thin copper oxide (CuOx) on Ag was studied by surface analysis.

Annealing in a reductive ambient altered the chemical state of CuOx.

The Ag fraction at the surface increased with annealing in a reductive atmosphere.

The growth of newly generated crystals took place at the same time.

Alteration of the state of CuOx can be explained by an Agsingle bondCu eutectic reaction.
