Eastern Arabian Sea experiences variable hydrographic features due to upwelling particularly during south west monsoon.

High nutrients (NO3, SiO4, etc.) supported microplankton community dominated by diatom while, northern section (12 °N) still experiences premonsoon condition supporting picoplankton dominance.

Prochlorophyte (Prochlorococcus) showed dominance in the northern section associated with favorable environmental setting while, Synechococcus were predominant in the southern section.

Such demarcation led to two different ecological niches which can influence the fishery potential of the region.
