Silver nanoparticles (AgNPST) readily interact with bovine α-lactalbumin (BLA).

Such protein-AgNP interaction causes functional and conformational change of BLA.

Protein corona over AgNPST reduced inherent antibacterial potential of nanoparticle.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-capped AgNP prevents the conformational change of protein.

PEG-capped AgNP retain its antibacterial potential and show better hemocompatibility.
