Misting with water increased topical Salmonella prevalence on pigs before slaughter. Enterobacteriaceae counts also increased but not with Virkon® S misting. Misting with 0.5% Virkon® S also prevented Salmonella prevalence from increasing. Virkon® S may have a role in topical antisepsis but additional research is needed.
