The incorporation of CHOL, 7DHC or DES produces comparable decreases in the thermal stability of gel state DPPC bilayers.

The incorporation of CHOL and DES increase the thermal stability of fluid DPPC bilayers while the incorporation of 7DHC decreases it.

CHOL is more laterally miscible in both gel and fluid DPPC bilayers than are 7DHC and especially DES.

CHOL increases the order of the hydrocarbon chains of fluid DPPC bilayers to a greater extent than DES and especially 7DHC.

The incorporation of CHOL, 7DHC or DES does not alter the degree of H-bonding of the carbonyl groups of DPPC.
