Brown coal lithotype cycles 10–30 m thick occur in Latrobe Valley and Germany.
They display well-developed colourimetry lightening-upward trends.
The cycles indicate relative drying (terrestrialization) upward trends.
The German coal colours appear to relate to Lusatia-type lithotype facies.
Charcoal-gelification abundance localises to dark lithotypes around cycle bases.
Correlations are Dk = GK Facies; MD/ML = P/M facies; L = A Facies; Pale = H/B.
