Gender, physical and psychosocial hazards were associated with MSD risk in both Malaysian and Australian public service office workers but their relative importance differed. A key differentiation was the association of work-life balance with MSD discomfort in Malaysia but not Australia. The design of intervention strategies to minimise MSDs should take into account differences that exist in work practices and socio-cultural contexts.
