A silicified wood belonging to the Lauraceae family discovered in Africa (Cameroon) is referred to the new genus Beilschmiedioxylon. The important literature concerning the woods of this family shows some difficulties in characterizing the woods of recent genera and, consequently, the fossil ones. So, an inventory of all the Lauracean fossil woods with new precisions and discussions seems to be necessary. This study completes the important work published by Herbert Süss in 1958.
