An economic assessment of an MFC implementation for wastewater treatment was performed. The Net Present Value and the Internal Rate Returns have been evaluated. Electrode area, use of Pt, price of electricity and inflation have been considered. Pt-free cathodes are economically more attractive for MFC wastewater treatment. This study can be a tool for future investors in this technology.
