Functions of LdAceCS gene was analyzed by overexpression and knockout studies. LdAceCS overexpression resulted in increase in infectivity and ergosterol levels. Single knock out of LdAceCS gene caused reduced infectivity and ergosterol levels. Null mutants for the gene could not be obtained. LdAceCS gene is essential for Leishmania parasites.
