The services offered to sheep and beef clients based on a typical sheep and beef veterinary practice in New Zealand are summarised. These services include emergency clinical visits to treat individual animals, routine and planned farm visits which include a large ewe scanning business and a database to support it, consultancy services, extension services including examples of leadership within the sheep and beef farmers and merchandising of all animal health products to farmers. Promotion of these services to clients is critical and done in a number of ways. Animal health plans are becoming more important for farmers and the planning of their businesses. Why animal health plans are needed, how they are done, and what is needed in a basic plan are discussed.
