This study examines novice teachers’ leadership development in various types of schools.

Novice teachers are able to take up various teacher leadership roles early in their career.

Teacher leadership is developed through mutual influences delegated by the principal and initiated by the teacher.

Interplay of the teacher’s and principal’s roles as an interface of developing teacher leadership is evidenced.
