There is a legacy of historic land uses in groundwater flowing to surface water. Historic maps of land use + simulated groundwater transport times → legacy maps. Legacy land use maps provide a better predictor of many water chemistry variables. Land use over multiple spatial scales better captures water chemistry variation.
