General myelin loss alters cortical auditory frequency discrimination in mice. Inability to induce frequency-dependent conditioning following demyelination. Remyelination does not ameliorate the altered cortical functionality and behavior. Focal white or gray matter lesions distinctly affect auditory cortical functions. Focal white matter lesions are morphologically and functionally fully reversible.
