Initial micromorphological results from Liang Bua, Flores (Indonesia): Site formation processes and hominin activities at the type locality of Homo floresiensis
First microstratigraphic (micromorphological) analyses applied to the site of Liang Bua. Sediments analysed cover a previously identified ‘missing’ chronological period ∼46–20 ka. Marked changes in site environment recorded in the cave sediment record. Combustion features indicate fire-use at the site over a period ∼41–24 ka. Evidence suggests Homo sapiens are most likely candidates for using fire at the site.
