19F-PFCE-filled hollow silica nanoparticles with a mesoporous shell were used for MRI bioimaging. Quantitative analysis revealed exclusive liver accumulation of particles 24 h post-injection. Apolipoproteins A-1 and A-2 adsorbed preferentially on PFCE-filled particles from full serum. The protein adsorption behaviour is suggested to be linked to the biodistribution of the particles.
