Ovaries were removed from female rats before or after puberty. As adults rats were tested on sexual preference & place preference for paced mating. Prepubertal ovariectomy led to increased locomotor activity and withdrawal. Sexual preference and mating-induced reward did not differ due to ovariectomy timing. Results add to understanding of peripubertal ovarian hormones on sexual behavior.
