In folklore, the number of cuckoo calls is believed to reflect longevity of listeners.

We collected data on cuckoo calls, longevity of farmers and farm size.

Evidence suggests that cuckoo calls may reveal information on habitat quality.

Farmer longevity was directly and indirectly correlated with farm size and number of syllables in cuckoo calls.

Here we provide an explanation to the old saying, linking folklore to science.
