Defect sites on Co(0001) facilitate direct CO dissociation, around 330 K.
Extensive carbiding of Co(0001) by CO requires T ~ 500 K and pCO ≥ 10− 4 mbar.
Oad reduction by CO is difficult on Co and is limiting the rate of surface carbiding.
FTS on cobalt: O-removal is slower than direct CO bond scission.
