Juca seed galactomannan (JSG) was characterized and evaluated to control diabetes in mice. The M/G ratio of JSG is 2.4:1–2.7:1, as measured by different methods. JSG in solution forms a network, promoting swelling and interactions to other polysaccharides. This may be related to restricting glucose diffusion to the blood. JSG (10 mg/kg of body weight) is useful to control hyperglycemia in mice.
