This study examined the efficacy of three water soluble analgesic drugs for zebrafish. Post nociceptive behavioural patterns after fin clipping resembled those seen after acetic acid injections. Administration of lidocaine resulted in a significant reduction of pain-related behaviours. These results may pave the way for a first usable analgesic immersion protocol for very small fish in research facilities.
