Disparities in cervical screening uptake exist in a population-based programme. A male GP is a barrier to screening for all women regardless of their background. Also GP's age, origin, and distance to the screening site predict non-adherence. Current call-recall system does not reach immigrants properly. Experience with cervical abnormalities substantially increases screening adherence.
