Effect of surface treatment on the corrosion properties of magnesium-based fibre metal laminate

The surface energy and wettability of the magnesium alloy were significantly improved by the phosphating treatment. Compared with the abraded MgFML laminate, the phosphate MgFML laminate had a higher tensile strength and a stable peel process. Compared with the abraded AZ31B sheet, the phosphated AZ31B sheet had a better corrosion resistance within short times. The corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloy was greatly increased by being composited with glass fibre/epoxy prepregs.
