The Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ) is a sector in a series of Paleoproterozoic orogens of the supercontinent Columbia.
The present study reveals that the Mahakoshal belt of CITZ was formed as a back arc rift within the Bundlekhand craton.
The Mahakoshal back arc rift was developed by trench roll back.
After the cessation of volcanism, it was followed basin inversion and sediments started supply from the continental arcs.
The present study reveals the subduction - related outgrowth of CITZ similar to continental margins of Columbia.
