Continental-scale geochemical mapping provides the Cd content in agricultural soil. The Cd distribution pattern demonstrates the existence of two different backgrounds. Geochemical data are compositional data and contain relative multivariate information. The clr-Cd maps and selected single element ratio maps provide additional information. The PCA results based on classical and compositional approaches are quite comparable.
