We report dissolved Mn and Fe observations in mangroves along a latitudinal gradient.
Average Mn concentrations decreased at lower latitudes and were a function of intertidal area size.
Mn concentrations were over one order of magnitude greater in porewaters than surface waters.
Average dissolved Mn export rates from the four mangrove systems to the coastal ocean was 88,000 mol km− 2 year− 1.
Up-scaled global estimated fluxes from mangrove were greater than both riverine and atmospheric sources
