Small-scale convection produces intermittent vertical movement at continental margins. The movements are amplified with the presence of a less viscous lithospheric mantle. Great post-rift variability in the denudation rate induced by mantle convection. Small-scale convection can contribute to sustain a preexistent escarpment.
