Small intestine submucosa (SIS) – hydroxyapatite (HAp) scaffolds were developed. SIS-HAp scaffolds possess a trabecular bone-like structure. FTIR indicated a molecular interaction between the organic groups of SIS and HAp. SIS-HAp sponges presented a superior Young modulus to comparable bone substitutes.
