Two nucleobase transporter genes from Phanerochaete chrysosporium were studied. PhZ is a transporter of adenine-hypoxanthine belonging to the AzgA-like family. PhU is a transporter of xanthine and uric acid belonging to the NAT/NCS2 family. PhZ and PhU are the first purine transporters characterized in Basidiomycota.
