A study of the microstructure and the mechanical properties of an AlSiNi alloy produced via selective laser melting

AlSiNi samples were successfully produced by SLM using AlSi10Mg and Ni powders. The chemical composition was chosen to be close to the eutectic one. Fine and coarse Al3Ni precipitates were found in the samples. Most of the nickel is homogeneously dispersed within the samples. The samples have higher hardness than AlSi10Mg thanks to the fine precipitates.
