Electrochemical performance evaluations and safety investigations of pentafluoro(phenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene as a flame retardant electrolyte additive for application in lithium ion battery systems using a newly designed apparatus for improved self-extinguishing time measurements
Optimized device for determination of self-extinguishing time developed. Pentafluoro(phenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene as flame retardant electrolyte additive. Electrolyte mixture with 5% of FPPN is non-flammable for 10s. Exothermic reactions are shifted by 21 °C to higher temperatures by using FPPN. FPPN is electrochemical stable and high amounts are still present after 500 cycles.
