Novel community water systems had reduced environmental and health impacts and costs than a conventional system. The greatest advantages of novel water systems were in local human health impact and eutrophication potential. There was large uncertainty associated with on-site water treatment and community digesters. The novel water system options had different strengths and weaknesses across metrics.
