Protocols to effect β-arylation of sp³ C–H bonds via Pd(II)/(IV) and Pd(0)/(II) catalytic cycles have been achieved using a newly developed monodentate CONHC₆F₅ directing group. These reactions provide an unprecedented means to functionalize sp³ C–H bonds in aliphatic carboxylic acid-derived substrates.
