Enhanced mechanical and ferroelectric properties through grain size refinement in site specific substituted lead free Na0.5−xKxBi0.5TiO3 (x = 0-0.10) ceramics

The K-ion, as a grain growth inhibitor reduced the grain size by 13-fold in NKBT-10. The maximum softening of ∼43% in EC for NKBT-10 with respect to NBT is reported. An invariable variation in Pr with K-ion which is useful for possible applications. Vickers hardness of ∼10.2 GPa (∼50% higher than NBT) is observed for NKBT-10. The hardness value is even higher than lead based piezo-ceramics such as PZT and PLZT.
