Neutral lipids served as biomarkers to characterize sedimentary organic matter. Terrestrial contributions to organic matter dominate over autochthonous sources. Pattern of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons points to a prevailing pyrolytic origin. Petrogenic impact on organic matter proved to be of minor significance.
