Broad base conservation bench terraces with shoulder bunds on >1–12% slopes and soil bunds on ≤1% slopes conserved entire rainwater as soil water.
Watershed was representative of the area and water storage capacity of soils was more than rainfall in the region.
Weighted average runoff from the watershed was 66%, which reduced to zero after development.
Average soil loss by erosion was 268.6 t ha−1 year−1 from 9% slope, which reduced to zero after development.
Rainwater conservation measures increased sorghum yield to 4263 kg ha−1.
