Experimental study of microstructure changes due to low cycle fatigue of a steel nanocrystallised by Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment (SMAT)

LCF tests are carried out on specimens processed by SMAT. EBSD is used to investigate microstructural changes induced by LCF. A grain size gradient is generated by SMAT from surface to the bulk of the fatigue samples. New slip systems are activated by LCF and GOS is increased in plastically deformed region. However, these phenomena are not observed in the top surface ultra-fine grain area.
