Study on the photocatalytic mechanism and detoxicity of gemfibrozil by a sunlight-driven TiO2/carbon dots photocatalyst: The significant roles of reactive oxygen species
A sunlight-driven TiO2/carbon dots photocatalyst was prepared. The active mechanism of the TiO2/carbon dots composites was deduced suggesting the participation of reactive species in the degradation of gemfibrozil. Frontier electron density calculations verified that OH addition, H abstraction and O2− attack routes were the major gemfibrozil degradation pathways. The TiO2/C-Dots photocatalytic technology could effectively reduce the toxicity of the treated solution and by-products of GEM.
